Three generations. One Rosemont Avenue corner.
Charles F. Murphy, Inc. has been the plumber Frederick County calls since 1953 — and the people who answer the phone today are family.
How a working plumber built a 70-year business
Charles F. Murphy spent his early career working for other Frederick plumbing contractors. In 1953, he and his wife Kathleen opened their own shop. They stocked the parts no one else would carry. They answered the phone at all hours. They showed up when they said they would, and charged what they said they would.
That's still the rulebook. Three generations later, Charlie Murphy's sons, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and grandson run the business out of the same Rosemont Avenue shop. We've installed water heaters in homes where Charlie installed the first one. We've replaced wells our grandparents drilled. We've kept boiler systems running that nobody else will touch.
